Indian Rice Grass

a.k.a. Indian Millet | Sand-grass
Achnatherum hymenoides
Family: Grass

I love this little wisp of a seed head. Once you’ve seen this bunch of a grass plant, you’ll always know it.

Uses: The seeds were once used by people as they would grind them into a meal and use like a flour. In some cultures, this was the primary grain used for such purposes. Animals also forage on them, particularly in the winter when other food is harder to find. It’s also a good conservation plant and is used to control the effects of wind erosion.
