Black-Chinned Hummingbird

Black-Chinned Hummingbird

Archilochus alexandri

  • ORDER: Caprimulgiformes
  • FAMILY: Trochilidae

In the shadow, the black-chinned hummingbird’s throat looks black. But in the sun there’s a shade of brilliant purple at the base.

When I first got a fairly decent look at this bird, I was somewhat traumatized by how large the whites of its eyes were. 😉 Turns out, they have a white dot behind their eyes making the entire eye look remarkably large.

Fly back to the birds.
