It is so sad that we are able to add these particular clouds to our website. In 2018 the great Spring Fire took place and was visible from our home. There was so little chance that the fire would reach here, but no one would have ever believed that little ‘cooking fire’ would ultimately consume over 108,000 sq miles.
It was close enough that we prayed for our beloved home and for the homes of our Mesa friends. We prayed for all the homes and the animals within its hungry site. We prayed for the 1800+ heroic firefighters and we prayed for those who lost everything they owned.
Joe drove from Illinois and sadly bought a chain saw on the way. He spent a few days out here by himself. He kept looking towards the fire clouds as he cut down trees that were too close to the garage, cut them in pieces and stacked them along the boulders and away from all the trees.
He took these photos as he traveled to the house. He had to find an alternate route because the Laveta Pass was closed. so these photos begin with the view from either Blanca or Garland.
